ELEMENTARY GERMAN VOCABULARY CARDS GERMAN VOCABULARY CARDS FOR CHILDREN BEGINNER GERMAN VOCABULARY CARDS 99 GERMAN BEGINNER WORDS AND PHRASES WITH MATCHING ENGLISH CARDS AND 18-PAGE REFERENCE, RECALL AND WRITE WORKBOOK ideal for independent learning. Files are non-editable in a zipped format. They are copyright, all rights reserved. They may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. School licenses are available. Please read the Terms of Use. The vocabulary groups are as follows: Begrüßungen : Tage der Woche : Monate des Jahres : Jahreszeiten : Zahlen 0-20 : meine Familie : Alltagswörter : Deutsch im Klassenzimmer : Fragen und Antworten The cards are really versatile, and the set includes descriptions of a range of games and activities that students can try in German class. The Reference, Recall & Write book has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical German-English reference list of all 99 words and phrases. The recall and write challenges help students familiarize themselves with, and really embed, the range of vocabulary in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in German. My students use their recall workbooks several times, simply covering previous answers. This means that prep and paper are kept to a minimum. There are three written recall challenges in the workbook: = Challenge 1 students write the English word or phrase from a German prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category = Challenge 2 with this challenge, students write the words or phrases in German from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category = Challenge 3 the final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from German to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category. This challenges the memory more than when the vocabulary is in the order learners first learn it in, with the additional challenge of moving between the two languages = Meine Notizen und Neuer Wortschatz encourages students to reflect on their learning and to note any new vocabulary they may learn Laminate the game cards if you can as they’re more learner-friendly, and they will remain in excellent conditional for years. FRENCH CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES PRIMARY FRENCH IMMERSION CHRISTMAS I HAVE, WHO HAS? FRENCH FOR CHILDREN CHRISTMAS I HAVE, WHO HAS? ELEMENTARY FRENCH CHRISTMAS I HAVE, WHO HAS? It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. School licenses are available. Please read the Terms of Use. French Christmas J’ai… Qui a… ? is a whole-group lively and communicative language learning game. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompts of the French Christmas images, makes it perfect for practicing, reinforcing and refreshing French Christmas vocabulary. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking and reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. The aim of the game is to arrange the cards in the relevant order. Students can either create a human chain, holding the cards themselves, or a card line, on the floor, a longish table or other flat surface. There are 32 French Christmas words with images, and it’s likely that students will have more than one card each per game, depending on the size of the class. The vocabulary and images provide a really useful stimulus for discussion about Christmas traditions and practices in French-speaking countries. There are two games, each with a different challenge: = Challenge 1: the nouns written out in full with the definite article, and the Q & A J’ai… Qui a…? Students walk around, calling out the question. = Challenge 2: the nouns are in a different order, with only the definite article, and the Q & A As-tu…? Oui (Non) j’ai… . This challenge puts students’ vocabulary recall to the test, and students walk around, addressing other students individually. Play either as a whole-group game, or as a team game - which team can complete the challenge first? You can either play the challenges consecutively, or as a team game, swapping the challenges so that each team has a chance to play both challenges. ADVANCED BEGINNER GERMAN INTERMEDIATE GERMAN DATES DAYS MONTHS SEASONS TASK CARDS 48 DIFFERENTIATED QUESTION CARDS AND ANSWER KEY The resource consists of non-editable files in a zipped format. It is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. School licenses are available. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. Task cards are an ideal learning activity for German class. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their German language skills in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. This set focuses on German dates, days, months and seasons, which is usually described as beginner German vocabulary. The questions however are aimed at advanced beginner German into intermediate German students, as working with more complex language as quickly as possible helps progress students’ learning and gives them in a more realistic experience of the language they are learning. Questions and answers address a range of grammatical concepts, such as articles, cases, word order and adjectival endings. Students may not at this stage have formally engaged with all the language and grammar included in the set, and this makes the activity equally about practicing and consolidating German language skills and actively learning new language and grammar. The questions are entirely in German, including translation questions from both German into English and English into German. It’s important to help students understand as soon as possible that translation does not mean simply exchanging word for word, and that languages work in different ways to express the same meaning. The key to successful translation is to convey the original meaning accurately. Some questions address important dates or figures in German history, such as Tag der Deutschen Einheit and Angela Merkel. The set comprises the following non-editable files: = 48 differentiated question cards, 6 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Laminate if possible, as the cards are more learner-friendly, and will remain in excellent condition for years = answer key - providing students with additional opportunity to engage with language, helping them develop more independence in their learning - and a great teacher time-saver too = answer recording sheet - print and photocopy an appropriate number for your class. I tend to use these only for more formal assessment purposes - students generally use their class workbooks to note and work out responses, saving prep time and expense. You can also cut out the grids, and place them in a small bowl or similar object on tables. Students then select grids randomly from the bowl. This is great for additional challenge - students hear the English word, and translate it quickly, looking for it in writing in Italian in the grid These games are designed for players to cross off all the words or pictures on their grids in order to win the game - choose a Christmas-theme word or phrase as the winning word, and ensure that winners read out their completed grids in order to confirm the win: this also acts as additional language practice. INTERMEDIATE GERMAN ELEMENTARY GERMAN FOR CHILDREN BEGINNER GERMAN TASK CARDS BUNDLE 13 SETS @ $4.00 EACH IN THE BUNDLE Files are non-editable in zipped formats. The bundle is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom, in whole or in part, in any way. The license for purchase is a single-use license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. There are 13 sets of German Task Cards in this bundle. My students absolutely love challenge cards, and find them really useful for helping them get to grips with their German. Task cards are great for independent learning - students can work at their own pace, in pairs or in small groups, and really focus on the target language. The questions and templates focus on multi-skill language learning, not focusing solely on the target vocabulary - they provide students with opportunities to apply prior learning, and to encounter more complex language they may not yet have covered formally in class. There are answer keys and recording sheets for every set, though my students often just use their notebooks for writing their answers. Most sets have a question card template too - this is a really popular activity with my students, and they love to create questions for each other. Additionally, this enables them to apply their developing understanding of German in a very practical and creative way. Several sets also have accompanying vocabulary lists, which are great as a learning support resource, as well as a year-round reference resource. I have a series of challenge cards sets ready to go for my students - they’re a very popular choice for our ’free-choice’ learning time. Click on the links for detailed challenge card sets descriptions: Set 1: German Dates, Days, Months & Seasons Task Cards https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-dates-days-months-seasons-task-cards-12263785 Set 2: German Numbers 0-31 Task Cards https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-numbers-0-31-task-cards-12247769 Set 3: German Christmas Numbers 0-31 Task Cards https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-christmas-numbers-0-31-task-cards-12264396 Set 4: German Numbers 0-100 Task Cards https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-numbers-0-100-task-cards-12247767 Set 5: German Fruits Task Cards https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-fruits-task-cards-12561723 Set 6: German Vegetables Task Cards https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-vegetables-task-cards-12561733 Set 7: German Fruits & Vegetables Task Cards https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-fruits-and-vegetables-task-cards-12565466 Set 8: German Telling Time Task Cards : O’clock & Half Past the Hour https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-telling-time-task-cards-1-12715216 Set 9: German Telling Time Task Cards: Quarter to & past the hour https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-telling-time-task-cards-2-12950674 Set 10: German Telling ime Task Cards: Range of Analog Clock Times https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-telling-time-task-cards-2-12924645 Set 11: German Regular Verbs Present Tense Challenge Cards https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-regular-verbs-present-tense-task-cards-12247765 Set 12: German Irregular Verbs Present Tense Task Cards https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-irregular-verbs-present-tense-task-cards-12247766 Set 13: German Separable Verbs Present Tense Task Cards https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-separable-verbs-present-tense-task-cards-12715211 All files are non-editable in a zipped format and include a range of the following: differentiated question cards, students don’t have to work through all cards at once - they can select cards randomly for short periods of time during lessons, whatever way suits your learning plan best. answer recording sheet - I don’t actually always use these - I let students use their work notebooks for answers simply use their notebooks for answers. In some set, I’ve included a sheet with a background, and one without. Similarly, in some sets I’ve also included a blank sheet, with no numbers, which is useful when students are working ‘randomly’ through the cards at different times. answer key - I find having a key essential for students, as it helps them to work and learn independently, and it also offers extra opportunity to engage with language - I tend to laminate sets of answer keys - one answer key for each small group is enough question cards template for students to apply their knowledge practically, and to create questions for each other - this is a really challenging and popular activity, and I encourage students to include other vocab and verbs they know or learn. Have a browse in my store for German resources, including special offer bundles and freebies. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their French language skills in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The differentiated questions have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in French in general, and on the focus language, for example, conjugating French RE verbs in the present tense in particular. I use task not only when we’re focusing on the focus language and grammar, but also for sub lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity. The goal is not simply to learn how French works, and how patterns can be identified and applied, it’s also about enjoying working with French, and to feel confident about doing so. The questions are differentiated, and range in complexity and challenge, with some calling specifically upon prior and new knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some vocabulary that students are not familiar with - these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too. Other grammatical concepts are addressed in the questions too, such as gender agreement, direct and indirect objects, personal pronouns and question formats in French. The question card template available in some sets enables students to apply their knowledge practically and creatively, which is an essential element to successful language learning. To get the most from the questions, I frequently look at the multiple-choice questions as a whole-group, identifying not only why there is a single correct response, but what the errors are in the other choices. Identifying errors, and explaining precisely why something is inaccurate or incorrect, helps students to think about language a little more laterally, and ensures that they are thinking concepts through, rather than simply relying on learned responses. All sets have full answer keys and recording sheets. The set features a range of high-frequency French Christmas vocabulary, useful either as an introduction to, or consolidation of, the target language. Students can also develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their general French language skills in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The questions are differentiated, and are aimed at advanced beginner French students. They address not only French numbers 0-31, French mathematical language and French Christmas vocabulary, but also a broad range of grammar points, such as definite and indefinite articles, question formats and gender agreement in French. All the questions are in French, with the Christmas images providing students with visual learning support. The Christmas vocabulary and images help to develop students’ awareness of a range of Christmas traditions and figures in French-speaking countries, such as galette des Rois and Père Fouettard, which I’ve translated as Father Fouettard, rather than ‘Whipping Father’, and are also really useful for stimulating discussion about French Christmas practices and customs. This is a great alternative to more standard presentations and worksheets. Students also enjoy talking about other Christmas traditions they know or follow. The resource comprises the following non-editable files: = 48 differentiated question cards - laminate if possible, as they will remain in excellent condition for years = answer key - this can also be laminated, and shared among groups of students for class work = answer recording sheet - simply print as many as your particular groups need. My students generally use their class workbooks for working out and noting responses, though recording sheets are definitely useful for more formal assessment purposes. A lively whole-group multi-skill language learning game, ideal for Primary French Immersion / Elementary French and Beginner French students. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the clock faces, makes it perfect for practicing, reinforcing & refreshing how to tell time in French, and for pronunciation practice too. There are 8 clock faces per page. This size ensures they are sufficiently large for students to be able to read the time clearly, also allowing for an ideal font size to keep language clear and accessible. I always laminate my language learning cards - it’s definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. The aim of the game is to arrange the clocks in the relevant order. Students will generally have several cards each, depending on the size of your class. We usually set the cards on a table, so that students can see the timeline clearly. I frequently use a timer when we play. Playing in teams, using either a single challenge, or with both challenges together, is really popular - students find the competitive element really motivating and are genuinely keen to see which team can finish first, and whether they can beat their own time record. The games also work well as pair or small-group games. There are two games, each with a different challenge: = Challenge 1: with all the the clock times in numerical order, J’ai… Qui a… ? = Challenge 2: with the all the clock times in random order, which really helps recall and embedding new language, as students often learn time phrases in numerical order, As-tu… ? Oui (Non), j’ai… Have a browse in my store for more French resources, including special offer bundles and freebies. MERCI BEAUCOUP ET BON APPRENTISSAGE !

Please read the Terms of Use carefully. Lively whole-group communicative language learning game, perfect for practicing, reinforcing & refreshing a range of fruits in French. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too - particularly with silent s, the audible sound of x (deux and dix for example) and so on. I point out particular phonemes and sounds too, such as***ei in groseilles*** and the soft c in citrons . The aim of the game is to create a French sentence chain as quickly as possible. The game works well if the sentence sequence is placed on the floor, a longish table, or other flat surface. The design is four cards per page, which allows for a large font - this is really important for beginner language learners who are familiar with the written word, and starting to***link spelling with sound***. There are 29 fruits featured in the game: green apple; red apple; banana; cherry; date; fig; gooseberries; grapefruit; green grapes; red grapes; honeydew melon; kiwi; lemon; lime; mango; nectarine; olive; orange; papaya; peach; pear; pineapple; pumpkin; raspberry; redcurrants; rhubarb; starfruit; strawberry; watermelon. All the fruits may not be in my longer-term learning plan, but the learning objective moves beyond simply learning individual units of vocabulary - the images help students***infer meaning from context***, supported by the visual prompts and clues - this in turn supports them in developing their French language skills in the longer and more complex sentences. There is implicit input on grammatical concepts such as adjectival agreement, gender, definite, indefinite and partitive articles and position of adjectives, either preceding or proceeding the particular noun. This is a very successful way of really getting the most of what looks like a straightforward game for consolidating the target vocabulary - it is actually so much more! The question card template provides an additional learning activity, with students applying their developing French language knowledge creatively and practically, as they make game cards for the class - this is a really popular activity with my students. TWO GAMES AND CHALLENGES FOR ALL ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS The resource is non-editable in a zipped format. It is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. School licenses are available. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. English Christmas I have… Who has… ? is a whole-group lively and communicative language learning game, which provides students with the opportunity to engage with English Christmas vocabulary, as well as working on their general English language skills, which is more meaningful than simply learning individual words at one particular time of year only. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompts of the English Christmas images, makes it perfect for practicing, reinforcing and refreshing English Christmas vocabulary. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. There are 32 Christmas words in English, and there’s a UK Christmas theme with some of the words, for example Christmas cracker, mince pies and Christmas pudding. The aim of the game is to arrange the cards in the relevant order. Students can either create a human chain, holding the cards themselves, or a card line, on the floor, a longish table or other flat surface. It’s likely that students will have more than one card each per game, depending on the size of the class. The vocabulary and images provide a really useful stimulus for discussion about Christmas traditions and practices in the UK and other English-speaking countries. There are two games, each with a different challenge: = Challenge 1: the nouns written out in full with the definite article, and the Q & A I have… Do you have…? Students walk around, calling out the question. = Challenge 2: the nouns are in a different order, with only the definite article, and the Q & A Do you have…? Yes / No, I have… .
